Niccolò Paganini
Paganini's 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, Op. 1 (composed c. 1802–17, published 1820) are cornerstones of the violin repertoire, and Caprice No. 1 in E major—nicknamed 'The Arpeggio'—opens the set with a brilliant study in right-hand string crossing and arpeggiated figures. These caprices influenced countless later composers, including Brahms, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff.
